Divetech Calendars and Diaries 2010

The Divetech calendars and diaries are almost ready to go to print, so please get your orders in early, I'm only doing one print run this year.

Calendars cost £6.50 and £12.00 for the diary, both are on good quality paper, spiral bound with card covers. The calendar is A4 size, the diary is A6 and has laminated card covers. Any profit made will go to club funds. Here's an idea of what they look like;

This year we are also offering prints of the photos used in the calendar and diary, most will enlarge to A4 and a few can be pushed to A3. A4 prints cost £10 and A3 £15 - the photos available are in a Facebook Gallery, please take a look.

Orders to Alison as soon as possible please, or if you're not a member please contact us

Training Officer's Report

The club are currently running two courses; Ocean Diver and Sports Diver, both are now well advanced.

Sports Diver

Most of the technical input is complete, and the theory exam is scheduled for Wednesday 25 February, this will be followed by the Sports Diver Nitrox Workshop.

Practical sessions have taken place in Loch Long under the watchful gaze of the Cobbler and have consisted of planned and improvised training exercises, including surface searches and weight belt retrieval!

The next session is on Saturday 28 February at Loch Long. Please come along and join us, I need divers and instructors for that day and we will be finished in plenty of time to get back to Edinburgh for Sands Bon Voyage meal.

Ocean Diver

Our new trainees are progressing well, with all the technical input now completed. The theory exam took place in February, all the trainees have passed - congratulations!

Practical sessions are taking place at Leith Academy on Thursday nights and these will be completed in the next few weeks. It is hoped to get some of the trainees into the sea on Saturday 7 March.

The sessions at Leith Academy are on Thursdays between 8:30 and 9:30 pm and are open to all club members, either to do some training or just have a swim. We usually meet in the Persevere on Easter Road for a post training drink and chat. Please come and join us.

Future training

We will start a new Sports Diver course in the near future; those of you who missed the start of the current one should be able to join this one. If we can get the use of a pool, we may be able to start a second Ocean Diver Course as well.

Please get in touch if you would like to do some training.

The light nights are fast approaching and it is my intention to start mid week evening dives on the East coast over the summer months.
